It might have happened to you before: you are walking along a street or riding a bike and a dog happens to cross your path. The dog starts barking, charges at you, and you feel threatened. If you have ever wanted to get rid of dogs it is only natural. Make no mistake, these creatures, which are called 'man's best friend', can actually turn quite savage at times. Your best bet is to keep a distance from the savage dogs. But what would you do if a dog attacks you even when you have done no harm to it? Listed below are some tips which will help you save yourself from a dog attack.
First of all, you should take precautions to make sure you don't get into a bad situation with the dog. More often than not dog attacks are the result of human aggravation or ordinary mistakes that can be easily avoided.
You should always remain calm. Never show the dog that you are afraid of it. It's true that dogs and other animals can sense fear. If you panic, you may make the dog feel more confident in his attack, or you may appear threatening to the dog. Neither of these is a good situation.
Don't forget nature's law. Humans are more powerful than dogs; hence dogs are subject to humans. Learn to make control of the situation. A loud "down" command will shock the dog enough to stop its attack on you, which gives you enough time to move out of its way.
One big mistake that people make in order to get rid of dog is that: they actually start to run as fast as they can whenever they happen to spot a dog. What they don't know is that running away can awaken the dog's instinct to chase and catch animals, and he may pursue you enthusiastically. You won't be able to outrun a dog if you're on foot, but if you're on a bike, you may be able to get away, especially if you have a little head start.
Avoid making eye contact with the dog. Dogs perceive eye contact as a challenge and a threat. Look slightly down or askew of the dog, but keep him in your vision.
Avoid smiling at the dog. You may be putting on a friendly face, but an aggressive dog sees you bearing your teeth for a fight.
Back away slowly and leave the area once the dog loses interest in you. Staying calm and motionless can be a real test of your nerves in this situation, but it's the best thing to do as long as the dog isn't actually biting you.
If you want to get rid of dog attacks, you can try to put something between you and the dog's teeth. When the dog attacks, you can give it something to bite on, like your jacket or purse. Do note that you should use this tactic only as a defensive weapon. Sudden movements or defensive moves such as trying to put yourself behind your bicycle may actually get the dog more excited.
If you have got pepper or chili spray with you, you can use it to get rid of dog. Make sure that you use it only when the dog actually tries to bite you. For one, you don't want to harm someone else's dog just because it has come barking towards you out of curiosity or is in a playful mood. For another, if you cannot defeat him in a fight, you will actually make him even more dangerous. If you want to hit the dog, you should give a blow either to its mouth or on the eyes.
