Even if you have tried enough tactics to get rid of dog, the dog may not be willing to get rid of you. Chances are that you might actually get bitten savagely by the dog like what happened to my friend. If this ever happens to you here is what you should do.

If the dog already has part of your body in his mouth it would be foolish to try to pull away. Never do it! Have you ever played tug-of-war with a dog, trying to pull a toy from its mouth? If yes, you will know that dogs don't let go of something they take control of. Pulling will actually make the situation worse for you. The dog's instincts tells it to bite down harder and hold on if you try to pull something (your hand, for instance) out of its mouth. Even if you succeed, you'll perhaps end up with a severe wound.

If you are knocked to the ground by the dog you should curl yourself into a fetal position Be sure to protect your face and neck with your hands, and then curl up in a ball. Remain immobile and don't ever yell. As a rule of thumb the dog will almost always lose interest in you if you remain motionless. Don't get up from that position until the dog leaves the area.

Next, you should attend to your wounds. Be sure to take care of any wounds promptly, because even a minor bite can cause major infection.

Apply gentle pressure to stop minor bleeding. Use a clean cloth or sterile gauze pad. If bleeding is serious or if it won't stop after several minutes of applying pressure, seek medical attention.

Wash the wound thoroughly. Use warm water and soap (preferably antibacterial soap) to gently cleanse the wound.

Nest you should dress the wound using a sterile band-aid (for very small cuts) or sterile bandages.
Be sure to apply fresh bandages and apply antibiotic ointment at least 1 or 2 times a day.

You should seek doctor's help if you have suffered serious injuries or if your wounds show up signs of infection, including redness, warmth, increasing tenderness, or oozing pus. You should also visit a doctor if you haven't had a tetanus shot within the past five years or so.

The next thing you should do is make sure such incidents don't happen again in future, as well as determine if the animal has rabies: if the dog is a domesticated one, you should immediately contact its owner as well as the animal authorities, and intimate them about the incident. If the dog is a stray one, you should notify the local municipality, police or animal control department about the incident.
